I'm a long-time baseball fan, and I can appreciate the dissection of statistics to get an advantage in any situation. Michael Lewis' Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game takes both these passions of mine and wraps them into a great story about how an underfunded team can compete with anyone, even the deep-pocket New York Yankees by choosing players and salaries wisely.

I'll second that; Moneyball is a very cool book which I found hard to put down. I really enjoyed Bob Costas book 'Fair Ball' as well.

Wi-Fi everywhere at SBC park is so cool, almost makes me wish I'd gone to SF. Of course it probably has it's dangers:

It may be a safety hazard depending on your seats; the stands are very close to the field. Imagine looking at your screen and then having a ball hit you in the face travelling at 120 MPH. Just a thought. [alt.sports.baseball.sf-giants]

A grand ole game

This evening I bought a years MLB Gameday Audio pass for $15 so I could listen to Giants games radio broadcasts. We already have NASN as part of our cable package but I doubt I saw even 15 Giants games last year. So I figure this is a much better way to keep up with the team.

And what a reward! In a pretty typical game where the Giants where 0-1 down in the 8th and going nowhere fast I got to hear Michael Tucker hit his first career grand slam and give us a 4-1 lead :-)

I've just learned that the upcoming 2006 edition of Out of the Park baseball will be available on the Mac! Woo Hoo! This is fantastic news!!

OOTP is the best baseball simulation game ever and 2006 sounds like it's another big leap forward. Can't wait to buy this and waste many hours as manager of my beloved Giants!
